Add the lows add more lows to get a thicker tom sound.
Getting a good thump from a 16 converted floor tom.
To get just thump out of your floor tom i d get one of those 16 emads for toms.
It is super punchy and offers a short low end sustain perfect for recording and even live with little eq needed to produce the perfect sound.
I use a dw 16x16 shell for this head.
Cut the boxy frequencies until you hear your toms getting thicker.
Expect a punchy short sustained sound.
Depending on the size of the drum there are different frequencies involved.
What i recommend if using for floor tom.
Hi guys i m really excited about a bass drum i ve just converted and i thought i d might share my experiences incase any of the other members are planning a similar project.
Coated g2 over resonant glass is a killer combo for a controlled yet resonant tom sound.
I ve also seen guys use bfsds on floor toms but it really kills the projection of the drum.
Absolutely what i was looking for as a second floor tom.
Support sounds like a drum on patreon.
It fits any standard 16 floor tom provided the tom features standard cast or triple flanged hoops with eight lugs and can accept 10 5mm legs.
Well i use as my main floor tom a 14 x 12 dw i mic it but i ve had no problem in smaller venue gigs in getting a good rich deep sound from this tom i use g2 s on the bottom and remo coated emporers as the batterhead i also slightly tune the tom to a nice phat lower thud seems to work for me i d say your catalina 14 would work well in a smallish gig for most classic rock jazz.
